Stonechild is the 2019 album from Jesca Hoop, an indie folk artist. Stonechild follows Jesca Hoop as she curses the sacred bond between mother and child, turning it into something frightening, as she searches for darkness in the light.The album is named in reference to lithopedion, a rare phenomenon in which the body of a dead fetus calcifies after it is unable to be reabsorbed by the mother’s body. Stone children are never born and often remain in the womb for years until they are found.
